Sikkim:
India's 22nd State lies in one
of the most enthralling regions
of the Himalayas. This hidden
peaceful land of rice
cultivation, called "Bayul
Demojong" by the local people,
is inhabited by Nepalis, Lepchas,
Bhutias, Tibetans and Marwaris.
Surrounded by the Tibetan
Plateau in the North, Nepal in

the West,
Bhutan in the East and West
Bengal along its Southern
border, the awe-inspiring
Kanchanjunga peaks (the third
highest in the world) guard its
green valleys, turquoise lakes,
and crystal-clear streams and
gorges.
Sikkim has a greater variety of
vegetation, including 4,000 rare
species of plants, than anywhere
else in the world. Its
fascinating flora and fauna will
enchant nature lovers. In the
wild gorges one will find ample
opportunities for white-water
rafting.
In short, Sikkim offers her
visitors a singular experience
of a lifetime.
Gangtok: the "Lofty Hill", is
the capital of Sikkim. It is
characterised by mysterious
mists, fluttering prayer flags,
painted roofs and pagoda-styled
houses, a rich cultural heritage
and friendly smiling people. A
captivating mix of simple life
styles and varied sight-seeing
opportunities make this town
well worth a visit.
Darjeeling: Nestling in the
grandeur and beauty of the
snow-capped mountain ranges of
the Kanchanjunga, Darjeeling has
been gifted with a beautiful
natural scenery. It is
surrounded by lush green tea
gardens, and has the highest
Railway Station in the world.
The Darjeeling 'Toy Train' is
part of the world's cultural
heritage. The town of
Darjeeling, also known as "Queen
of the (Eastern) Hills", was the
summer capital of India during
the British period. A holiday
resort of the Victorian era it
still exudes grandeur, charm and
majesty. From "Tiger Hill" one
can get one of the best sunrise
views in the world.
Kanchenjunga: In Kanchangjunga
region, the trekking routes in
Kanchanjunga National Park
starts from Yuksum (the first
capital of Sikkim). On a well
beaten trekking track in form of
bridle path running through
terraced fields of barley and
orchards; onto moss-laden lush
green forests of pines, firs,
giant magnolias, rhododendron,
spruces and orchids- a
naturalists・paradise.
Intermingled with this are the
chirrup, twitter and peeping of
exotic Himalayan birds. As you
climb up with patience and pain,
you will be rewarded by the
close-up views of the Sikkimese
mountains |
